EPISODE BLUE

INTRODUCING DANIELLE SWINDELLS

What do you do and why do you do it?

I’m a documentary filmmaker. I do it because it’s what I enjoy watching and looking at the most, whether its a film or a still image. It’s what I engage with most deeply. When I see something beautiful or strange, I always want to capture it and keep a part of it and the next sort of step to that is to show it to other people.

What excites you about Manchester?

The people and the surprising turns a day can take here.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Not to worry as much which I still do all the time. And to not give up learning to play instruments, which I did almost immediately with guitar and piano. And to carry on learning Spanish at school.

What is your favourite Native Youth piece?

I really like the longline bomber jackets.

What does the future hold?

I’m hoping my work gets a lot better and I can support myself by doing it for a living, maybe in broadcasting. I’m working on a commissioned 3-minute film at the moment for Random Acts and have just started a research degree, carrying on a documentary project on Blackpool that I started last year as part of my Filmmaking BA.
